Not far from Malia there is also the lassithi plain, a large upland plain at an altitude of about 850 m, surrounded by the Dikti massif and containing some of the archaeologically most important caves. Between them there is the Diktaion cave - born place of zeus - at Psychro. The palace of Knossos and the archaeological museum of heraklion, spinalonga island with its medieval castle, via beach and palm forest, chrissi island with its white beaches and emerald waters are only a few between the numberless places of historical interest or natural beauty that a visitor can explore at the eastern part of Crete. |
