The heart of the popular district of the Macarena contains the Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. This temple is of contemporary invoice, built by Aurelio architect Gomez Millán in 1949. For many centuries, the Brotherhood of the Macarena resided in the adjacent Parish of San Gil. It is one of the few samples of alfonsí architecture that has been conserved in Seville, and was founded in the 13th century by the Archbishop Don Remondo. |
