Under the façade of a modern, 21st century city lies 2 millennia of history. The beautiful, historic centre is full of narrow, winding streets and ancient squares. Calahorra is also home to the region’s only cathedral and many other cultural and historic attractions, with beautiful architecture including reminders of the city’s Roman and Arabian past. Other tourist attractions in Calahorra include the Paseo del Mercadal, a pedestrian street surrounded by trees on both sides, featuring the ruins of the Roman Circus. On the other side of the city, the Rollo o Picota dates from the Middle Ages. Calahorra is part of the Camino Jacobeo del Ebro, the Roman road that has linked Tarraco with Astorga for more than 2000 years. Arnedo y Arnedillo is a nearby city on the banks of the Cidacos River, a tributary of the Ebro. Near the city, there is a beautiful, peaceful nature reserve. |
