| The Carthusian Monastery of Maggiano is the oldest amongst the ones built in Tuscany. Siena built three in the 14th century of which two still exist: Maggiano (1314) and Pontignano (1343). Turned into a hotel in 1975, the Certosa di Maggiano offers you a variety of thoughtfully appointed areas in which to spend different moments of the day. The Emperors Hall is so-named for the twelve 18th century paintings, portraying the 12 Roman Emperors, which line its walls. The Library, dominated by an antique alder-wood bookcase, also features sofas upholstered with fine silk created by the Antico Setificio Fiorentino. The grounds are vast and among the olive groves and vineyards one finds our tennis court, helicopter landing, and a heated, open-air pool. Near the pool, there is also a small fitness room. Please note: as the hotel is a XIV century establishment there is no lift. |

| The 17 rooms of the Certosa di Maggiano, corresponding to what were 17 monastic cells, are situated on 3 floors. Differing in style, colour scheme, view and furnishings, they share a common simple, refined elegance, in addition to all the modern comforts. | ||||

| “Il Canto Restaurant (Michelin starred) takes its name from one of the centuries old farms belonging to the Certosa, which even today produces olive oil and fresh products, the ingredients upon which our dishes are based. In October 2007, our restaurant as been also included among the 25 Italian restaurants awarded with “Three Forks” on the prestigious guide “Ristoranti dItalia del Gambero Rosso 2008”. The spaciousness of the Certosa allows you to enjoy meals in varying locales throughout the day. Breakfast is served in a historic kitchen, decorated in a rustic style with age-old tree branches, and “al fresco” under the adjoining pergola. During the summer, restaurant service is available at the colonnaded porch near the pool, for those who wish to dine casually. Dinner, depending upon the season, is either served in the small, exquisite dining room, or under the arches of the central cloister. A wide selection of Italian specialities are offered according to the season, and you will also find a careful selection of Italian wines, particularly Tuscan red wines. |

| Built in 1314 thanks to Cardinal Ricardo Petroni, this ancient monastery was designed for meditation and prayer and is located in the countryside, 2 km from Sienas famous Piazza del Campo. The property passed from hand to hand until 1969, the year in which Mrs Anna Grossi Recordati fell in love with the majestic, ruined complex and decided to restore it to its former glory. In 1975 the Certosa di Maggiano was turned into a hotel and became part of the Relais & Chateaux brand. |
