The Grand Hotel Bristol, with its rich historical background, was built in 1908, and inaugurated on January 11th, 1911. Since then its halls have been the meeting place for historical and political figures such as Benito Mussolini, the English Minister for Foreign Affairs Austen Chamberlain and the British Chancellor William Churchill. In all of the towns the houses appear to be piled one on top of the other - space is precious in the Cinque Terre and is not to be wasted, therefore town dwellings have grown vertically.
