Neuschwanstein Castle, probably the most famous of Ludwig IIs constructions, boasts a highly dramatic location on a cliff over the Pöllat Gorge on the banks of Lake Forggensee. The interiors are inspired by German chivalric legends and the operas of Richard Wagner. Lindnerhof Palace was built in 1878. With its richly ornamented facade and beautifully landscaped park, the palace also features the famous open sesame rock. The rock leads to the artificial Venus Grotto with a waterfall and lake. Last but not least, there is the King’s House on Schachen. Ludwig II selected a unique setting with a view of the Zugspitze mountain. The wooden building can only reached on foot, either from Elmau or Garmisch-Partenkirchen. |

By car: Drive along the A95 motorway (Munich/Garmisch-Partenkirchen) until you reach the end of the route. Continue through Oberau on route B2. After the Farchant Tunnel, turn right towards Garmisch (Fernpass-Reute-Grainau) and continue on route B23. In Garmisch, you will see an Agip petrol station on the left-hand side after approximately 1 km. After 300 metres, turn right at the 2nd set of traffic lights. Before you reach the Loisachbrücke bridge, turn right into the Loisachstrasse. You will reach the hotel after approximately 100 metres. |
