The deep blue sea of Ericeira is shared by fisherman, with their colourful boats and nets, and surfers from all over Europe. One of the best surf beaches is Ribeira d’Ilhas, located only 700 metres from the hotel. The countryside close to the shore is dotted with windmills, farms and fields. In this traditional agricultural zone around Lisbon, known in Portuguese as the ‘região saloia’, you will find excellent natural produce. In nearby Mafra you can admire the famous and impressive early 18th century convent of King D. João V, home to regular carillon concerts. In Malveira, do not forget to try the delicious “trouxas” (sweet cakes). In Sobreiro, also worth a visit is the José Franco museum (an open air reconstruction of a typical early 20th century Portuguese village). |
