| Megalochori is located 10 km from the town of Fira. It is a traditional village situated to the south of Athinios on the road to Acrotiri. The town has a number of old churches, taverns and cafes. The most famous church of Megalochori is the Panagia of Isodion dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Local festivals worth seeing are the panigyrias. The feast of Aghioi Anargyri takes place on the 1st of July and on the 15th of August a festival is held in honour of the Virgin Mary. You should also take the opportunity and visit one of the 3 main local wineries, distinct in their own way. The wine factory of Boutaris is a well known firm in Greece. The Vineyard George Gavalas is a traditional family business and one of the oldest of Santorini. Another interesting option is to visit the Antoniou Wines, which is an old winery situated in caves. Studio Artemis is also close to the most famous beaches of Santorini island: - 3km far from the Red beach (close to the Akrotiri archaeological site) - 4,5km from the White beach - 4km from Vlychada beach |
