Althorp House (7 km/ 4 miles) - Althorp has been home to the Spencer Family since 1508. On 6 September 1997 the Park became the focal point for the worlds attention, when Diana, Princess of Wales was laid to rest there after her tragically early death. She now lies on the island in the Round Oval, an ornamental lake, surrounded by her familys ancestral heritage. Billing Aquadrome (5 km/ 3 miles)- An extensive and popular area of water south-east of Northampton, Billing Aquadrome is home to powerboats, jet skis, fishing and birdwatching. A pleasure park, amusement centre, swimming pool and fast food outlets complete the picture. Canons Ashby House (22 km/ 14 miles) - One of the oldest and most romantic of Northamptonshires great houses and one of the countys hidden gems. This ancient courtyard house has been the home of the Dryden family since the 1550s. It contains Elizabethan wall paintings and sumptuous Jacobean plasterwork and has formal gardens with terraces, a medieval church and parkland. |

From the M1 junction 16 follow the A4500 to the city centre. After going over the railway bridge take the second left (the A508 direction Market Harborough)and the hotel is on your right opposite the Cathedral. The carpark is to the rear - take the little gravel road (to the right of the frontdoor at the end of the terrace of townhouses) around to the back of the hotel and into the courtyard. | |
